Returning and Renewing Library Materials
Materials must be returned on or before their due dates to avoid late fees. For your convenience, materials may be returned to any El Paso Public Library location.
Materials will be automatically renewed up to five times, as long as no one else has requested them and you don’t have overdue items or a balance on your account. You may also renew materials in person, by telephone or over the Internet using your online account.
Overdue Fines
On Tuesday, April 29, 2025, El Paso City Council voted to eliminate the use of overdue fines for materials that are turned in late. They also eliminated all overdue fines currently owed to the library.
That means that patrons that had been blocked from borrowing materials can resume checking out library materials as long as their overdue items are returned.
This change only affects overdue items. All other fees including those for damaged or lost materials still apply.
Patrons can still be blocked for having overdue materials but they won't incur a financial penalty.

Fine Appeal
If you feel like a fine or a fee was not your fault, you can appeal a fine by submitting the document below.
Requests for Library Materials
If you don't find what you need on our shelves, you can ask our staff to help you place requests for library materials from other El Paso Public Library locations. A maximum of 5 requests may be placed on each library card at any one time. You may also place requests yourself by using the Internet. Contact your local library to find out how.
Your requests will be filled as soon as possible, but please be aware that other patrons may be requesting the same items, and that each patron is allowed to renew items once. Library staff will telephone you once your requested items arrive at the destination you choose. Your items will be held for 7 business days. Please pick them up as soon as possible.
