Detained: A boy's journal of survival & resilience

Meet Author Ivan Gerardo Morales

The El Paso Public Library in conjunction with Nuestra Palabra and El Librotraficante, will host an author talk on the new Simon & Schuster publication, Detained: A Boy’s Journal of Survival & Resilience.

The book is the true story of a young 13-year-old boy making the long journey from his native Honduras to America in hopes of being reunited with his parents working in the US.  The boy was detained at the US/Mexico border and kept in a detention facility in Tornillo, TX where he kept a daily diary of his life there.  It is a first-hand account of what he experienced while held in the facility.

The event will be MC’d by author and professor, Tony Diaz (El Librotraficante), and will feature the co-author of Detained, Ivan Gerardo Morales, as well as many local authors and educators.  The event is part of a state-wide tour of the book as it makes its way west by way of Houston, Austin, San Antonio and El Paso.

Books will be available for sale at the event.  The event is free and open to the public.
